The UK is aiming to achieve carbon neutral status by 2030 to tackle climate change. That is not far away. The Even Up Project is a platform that is here to make it easy for everyone of us to plant trees so we can Even Up (offset) our personal carbon footprint and live a carbon neutral life.

But what does that mean and how does it work?

In simple terms…Everything you buy and just about everything you do has a carbon footprint. For example flying from London to New York and back generates about 986kg of CO2 per passenger (Source: Atmosfair). Using the internet, shopping online even your morning latte has a carbon footprint. 

This all adds up giving the average British adult a carbon footprint of around 10.5 tonnes of CO2 per year. 

Obviously this is an average and the more you travel, the more you drive and the more you buy increases your personal carbon footprint. The Even Up Project allows you to offset your personal carbon footprint (Even Up on Co2) by planting trees.

So How Do Trees Offset Carbon?

There is so much you can read about trees and the science. But in simple terms, during photosynthesis, trees absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, and later use it to build new materials – such as trunks, stems and roots. Because of this, forests are capable of absorbing CO2 from the air and storing it as carbon for long time periods. You can find more explanation here from the Even Up Project Climate Blog

A typical tree can absorb around 21 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, however this figure is only achieved when the tree is fully grown – saplings will absorb significantly less than this. Over a lifetime of 100 years, one tree could absorb around a tonne of CO2.

Which Plan is the Right one For Me?

We are working on a detailed carbon calculator, but at the moment we have simplified things to create three plans.

The Lifestyle Plan – £3.99 a month
Plants 12 trees every month (144 trees per year)
This is the plan for the average UK adult. If you live in an average sized house, drive an average car, and drive up to 10k miles a year then this is the plan for you. The average person has a CO2 footprint of approximately 10.5 tonnes per year, The Lifestyle Plan offsets 12 tonnes pa and costs only £3.99 per month which works out at only 83p a week.

The Even Up Plan – £7.99 a month
Plants 24 trees every month (288 trees per year)
If you do anything that you consider to be above average then this is the plan for you. So for example if you take a long haul flight or drive more than 10k miles a year then this is the plan you should choose. Spending time online has a very high carbon footprint so if you use your phone frequently then this will increase your personal carbon footprint. The Even Up Plan offsets 24 tonnes pa and costs £7.99 a month. 

The Big Plan – £15.99 a month
Plants 48 trees every month (576 trees per year)
This is a BIG PLAN that offsets a whopping 48 tonnes of CO2 every year. You personally are unlikely to have a Carbon footprint of 48 tonnes, so this is a plan for people who want to offset their own footprint and have an excess to help tackle climate change. The Big Plan offsets 48 tonnes pa and costs £15.99 a month.

What Happens After I Sign Up?

Signing up to The Even Up Project is very easy and once you have signed up we will take care of everything. We have designed our platform in such a way that you can either be no-touch or fully interactive with The Even Up Project.

If you simply want to subscribe and leave it to us, safe in the knowledge that your trees will be planted and you are living a carbon neutral life, then no problem, that is what we do!

Payments are taken by Paypal and are fully automated. When you subscribe you also create an account and you can log-in to your members dashboard where we will show you

• How many trees you have planted
• How long you have Evened Up on CO2
• How much CO2 you have offset

You can also see details about your trees, where and when they were planted.
